College Softball: Travonna Byrd, Hampton University

Travonna Byrd pitched seven innings, striking out three and allowing nine earned runs Thursday in Hampton University's 9-6 loss to Liberty University. Byrd is a 2008 graduate of Warwick High School.

Byrd is a 2008 graduate of Warwick High School where she was a varsity letter earner in softball and volleyball. As a senior (2008) she was named to the Peninsula all-star team and first-team all-district after hitting .388. That season she recorded her 100th career hit and run scored. Byrd was second-team all-region in 2007 as a junior after hitting .418 and posting a 1.01 ERA. She was also a Daily Press all-star. Byrd hit .440 while leading the district and region in home runs during her sophomore campaign in 2006 to collect second-team all-district recognition. Byrd was second-team all-district in 2005 as a freshman when she hit .357 and posted an ERA under 1.00. She was also all-district in volleyball. Born April 12 1990 the daughter of Travis and Antoinette Byrd she is working on a five-year MBA degree at Hampton. She is from Newport News.
