VDOT to close northbound I-664 tunnel for repairs March 23-26

The Virginia Department of Transportation will close the northbound lanes of the Interstate 664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for repairs this weekend.

The closure of the northbound lanes, which head toward Newport News, starts at 8 p.m. Friday, March 23. The northbound lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, March 26.

Crews will remove asphalt on top of the concrete slabs at the approach to the tunnel and make repairs to the joints at the northbound tube entrance.

Detours will be in place during the work for the following:

•    From Route 58 east approaching I-664 North (Bowers Hill): Exit onto I-264 east, toward the Downtown Tunnel. Follow I-264 east to I-64 west, toward the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Detour ends at I-664, Hampton Coliseum.
•    From I-664 North approaching College Drive: Crews will place an inside lane closure and reroute traffic back on to I-664 south, toward Bowers Hill.
•    From I-664 South: Take I-264 East toward the Downtown Tunnel to I-64 West toward the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel; detour ends at I-664, Hampton Coliseum.
