Results announced for 28th annual High School Captain's Classic
Krista Ferrell of Lafayette High School was one of several athletes to break a meet record at the Captain's Classic on Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 at Christopher Newport University.
Ferrell ran a 24.97 in the 200, breaking a 13-year-old record in the event.
Kiara Howell of Grassfield shattered the 10-year-old mark in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 1 inch and also broke a 1997 record in the discus with a throw of 141 feet, 7 inches.
Taylor Frenia also came through with a record-breaking performance. The Kempsville standout broke a 14-year-old stadium and meet record in the shot put with his throw of 58 feet, 4 1/4 inches.
Western Branch won the boys blue division title with 80 points and Wilson out of Pennsylvania was second with 71 points.
In the girls blue division, Grassfield took the title with 79.5 points. Phoebus was the runner-up with 59 points.
Lafayette's boys won the silver division title with 239 points. Smithfield was second with 115 points. St. Catherine's took the girls title with 138 points. Lafayette was second with 133 points.
