Peter Diakun appointed vice president and chief technology officer of Newport News Shipbuilding
Peter Diakun has been named vice president of energy programs and chief technology officer for the Newport News Shipbuilding division of Huntington Ingalls Industries.
The company made the announcement in a press release June 14.
Diakun, a 26-year veteran of the shipyard, holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a master’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, according to the release.
Newport News Shipbuilding President Matt Mulherin said Diakun’s long history in the shipyard makes him an obvious choice for this position.
“Pete’s experience and leadership will be of great benefit to the company and to our energy programs as we continue growth efforts in this area,” he said in the release.
Diakun will take over the new position Saturday, June 30 following the retirement of 46-year shipyard employee Doug Sitzel.
