Newport News Fire Department responds to calls related to thunderstorm
The Newport News Fire Department received numerous calls after midnight Saturday, June 30 relating to the severe thunderstorm that swept through the city overnight.
A total of 27 calls were responded to, which included a number of wires arcing, limbs down and scattered power outages throughout the city, and possible electrical transformers on fire.
The fire department also responded to four separate calls to trees that fell onto structures and two calls for boats in distress. No storm-related injuries have been reported.
Crews from Dominion Virginia Power are working to restore power in the areas of the city that were affected.
