Jefferson Lab to test tornado warning siren July 6
The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility will test its tornado warning siren at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6.
The test will be carried out over a period that could last from 30 seconds to three minutes, and could be heard by anyone outdoors within a one and a half mile radius of the lab, weather permitting.
The siren is used to alert members of the lab community who are working outdoors to “take cover” in the event of tornadoes and tornado warnings in the immediate vicinity of the lab.
The lab tests the system on the first work Friday of each month.
The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility is at 12000 Jefferson Ave. in Newport News.
