21 Newport officers graduate from police academy

The Newport News Police Training Academy graduated 21 new officers during a ceremony July 2.

The ceremony was held at the Ferguson Center for the Arts at Christopher Newport University. The officers were addressed and sworn in by the Honorable Gary Mills, chief judge of the Newport News General District Court.

The officers were joined on stage by a person of their choice who pinned their new badge to the uniform.

The new officers were assigned to field training officers for additional training. The academy features six months of training in hand out of the classroom.
