Newport News police try to identify possible credit card thief

Newport News police are looking for a man who stole credit cards from a wallet in a locker belonging to a 50-year-old Yorktown man as he worked out at Peninsula Wellness and Fitness Center between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. June 23, according to a press release.

Later June 23, an unknown man used the cards to buy items at the Office Max, Target, Best Buy and Wal-Mart stores in Newport News. Surveillance photos show the unknown man at Office Max around 1:30 p.m.

Police have enhanced and re-released surveillance video and pictures of the man who used the card, which captures him leaving the passenger side of a vehicle with a back pack and walking into a fitness center to make a transaction, then running back to the passenger side of the vehicle with the back pack. The public should watch the video and call the Crime Line if anyone knows the man’s identity.
