Newsome Park and Trinity Lutheran students win in Virginia Living Museum program

Students of Newsome Park Elementary School and Trinity Lutheran School won top awards in Virginia Living Museum's Adopt a Wild Thing in School program.

The program, sponsored by TowneBank, consisted of classrooms in 13 area schools adopting museum animals and holding a fundraiser to provide donations to purchase food, veterinary care and enrichment products that keep animals happy and healthy.  A total of 391 students participated in the program, helping 51 animals to be adopted by classrooms throughout Hampton Roads.

The Newsome Park Elementary School fourth and fifth grade Student Conservation Association, advised by Kathy Ashley, received the award for the top elementary school club while Trinity Lutheran's Outdoor Ed Club for sixth through eighth grade, advised by Sandy Butler, was awarded the top middle school club.

Lynne Peterson's third-grade class at Trinity Lutheran also placed second among elementary classrooms.
