Motorists crossing James River Bridge on July 31 to experience traffic delays
Motorists planning to cross the James River Bridge between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 31 may experience traffic delays due to preventative bridge maintenance.
Work crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation will be performing three lift span tests throughout the day on the James River Bridge. Each test will last for approximately 10 minutes. The bridge will be reopened to traffic in between each test.
Despite work being scheduled during a time of reduced congestion for the bridge, drivers should expect delays and consider using the Interstate 664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as an alternate route.
For more information on road work or current traffic and travel information, motorists should call 511 or the Traffic Information Line at 757-361-3016, visit 511Virginia.org or listen to Highway Advisory Radio 1680 AM.
