Police charge man with shooting, robbing cab driver
Malik Stanley Hall was arrested and charged with shooting and robbing a cab driver, according to the Newport News Police Department.
Malik Stanley Hall of Newport News was arrested and charged with robbing and shooting a 41-year-old Associated Cab driver, according to a press release from the Newport News Police Department.
Around 7:38 p.m. Friday, July 27, communications received a call regarding a possible carjacking and shooting in the 600 block of Rhoda Drive. Officers found the cab driver, who had been shot, according to the release. The driver’s cab had been stolen by an unknown black male.
The cab driver was taken to a local hospital with possible life-threatening injuries. He was later taken to a south-side hospital, where he is listed as stable. Police did not give the man’s condition.
The cab was found unoccupied a short time later at the dead end of Chester Road, according to the release. Malik Stanley Hall, 34, of Waters Edge Drive in Newport News was apprehended a short distance away from the cab. Hall had been hiding near a creek and was later identified as the suspect.
An investigation showed that the cab driver picked up a man in the area of Deloice Crescent and Denbigh Boulevard and was to take him to the area of Dodges Chicken on Jefferson Avenue. When they cab arrived in the area of Rhoda Drive and Cynthia Court, the man shot the cab driver, took an undisclosed amount of cash and drove away in the driver’s cab, according to the report. The man struck three other vehicles as he drove away.
Hall is charged with carjacking, robbery, aggravated malicious wounding, using a firearm during commission of a felony, possessing a firearm by a convicted felon, possessing a stolen firearm, hit-and-run and discharging a firearm within city limits.
