Newsome Park, Trinity Lutheran students win Adopt a Wild Thing school contest
Students at Newsome Park Elementary School and Trinity Lutheran School won their divisions for the Virginia Living Museum's Adopt a Wild Thing program.
Fourth- and fifth-graders at Newsome Park were the top elementary school winners with their adviser Kathy Ashley. Winning top honors in the middle school division was the Outdoor Ed Club at Trinity Lutheran. The team comprised of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders was advised by Sandy Butler.
Also receiving recognition from the program was Lynne Peterson's third grade class at Trinity Lutheran, which placed second among elementary classrooms.
Students in 13 area schools adopted 51 museum animals during the program. Adopting classrooms hosted fundraisers to provide donations to purchase food, veterinary care and enrichment products for the Virginia Living Museum animals. The program was sponsored by TowneBank.
