Soup for Seniors seeks food donations for elderly in need

A Soup for Seniors campaign will run from Monday, Sept. 3, through Friday, Dec. 21.

The Newport News Task Force on Aging, Department of Human Services — Adult Services Unit and the Senior Citizens Advocate's Office will be accepting donations of canned soup or soup mixes to distribute to local seniors in January.

Organizers are asking the community to donate canned soup or soup mixes through Friday, Dec. 21 at any of the following three Newport News sites during regular business hours:

In the North District, donations can be dropped at Disabled American Veterans, 15265 Warwick Blvd.

In the Central District, items are accepted at Public Works at the City Center, 700 Town Center Drive.

In the South District, soup can be donated at the C. Waldo Scott Center for H.O.P.E., 3100 Wickham Ave.

The campaign is also seeking volunteers to help distribute the food in January.
